Find a suitable way to rank verse readings
The setting is the following: Given an actual verse our tool produces a set of readings for the verse. Given also a set of existing metres, it is necessary to rank the reading-metre combinations according to their likelihood. Think about possible ways to this and discuss their merits and shortcomings.
Also think about inter-verse relationships:
- If four out of five given verses are classified as a hexameter, it is unlikely that the fifth one is anything different.
- The Elegic Distych consists of alternating Hexameters and Pentameters.
- There are also some stanzas, especially for Aeolic verse, where the verses in one stanza have specific metres (e.g. three Sapphic Hendecasyllabi succeeded by one Adoneus in the Sapphic stanza)
Therefore, it should be possible to rank a reading of one chunk of text as a whole.
