Wrote short (placeholder?) motivation on seminar blog:
"Latin prosody is a field studied for more than 2000 years, which leads us to believe that there is quite a lot of information out there to build a reliable, rule-based system to analyse and measure verse. Since most Latin writing has already undergone heavy academic study, we can fall back on a multitude of annotated data to test our system.
Of course, this also means that the amount of unannotated data is limited, even more so since there is next to no new poetry written in Latin. Still, our system aims to annotate verses not only with syllable lengths and metre, but also with the phenomena that lead to our classifications. Presented in a easily digestible way, this tool may help scholars of Latin to learn from an unending repository of annotated verse."
