Design way to show persistent (but dismissable) short messages on UI

e.g. something like the Material banner (https://m2.material.io/components/banners), see here https://gitlab.com/schwalbe-hd/schwalbe/-/issues/2/designs/current_state.png

Or maybe more like a snackbar? https://m2.material.io/components/snackbars

It should allow to show one persistent, but maybe dismissable short message on the UI, e.g. an error or a notification.

As for my personal taste, I would argue that a snackbar would be better. This is because it is lighter on the eye for these kinds of "temporary messages".

Thanks for the input! A problem is that I currently don't really know what I want to do. The banner in Schwalbe is intentional, because it is only used for application errors that should never happen, so if one does happen, I kinda want to force the users to look at it and ideally file a problem report.

I haven't made up my mind yet on what I want to do with Portal

Then maybe implement two seperate systems, one for smaller issues (e.g. oopsie-woopsies) and one for bigger faults with larger implications (e.g. f*cky-wuckys)?

I would take snackbars for smaller ossues and banners for the bigger problems.

Also: did you look at 'toasts' in material design? Those are my favorites.

Yeah, that maybe is what needs to be done. I will think about it as soon as I have some concrete use cases for which oopsie-woopsies and fucky-wuckys I actually want to show.

I remember toasts, even though they don't seem to be part of the original spec anymore. Don't know why Google changed this.
