\section{\texorpdfstring{\faIcon{calendar-check} Study \& Examination Administration}{Study \& Examination Administration}}
\begin{frame}{Disclaimer: System Change}
\begin{itemize}
\item Besides the new campus management system \textbf{heiCO}, there's also an old system (\textbf{LSF}).
\item The migration won't be complete until May 2024.
\item For some things, we currently don't know how they'll work in \textbf{heiCO}.
\end{itemize}
\end{frame}

\begin{frame}{Function Overview}
\begin{columns}[T]
\begin{column}{0.5\textwidth}
\underline{Already in \textbf{heiCO}}:
\begin{itemize}
\item Registration for most lectures
\item Certificates (of immatriculation)
\item Semester fee account
\item View and edit contact details
\item Apply for study programmes
\end{itemize}
\end{column}
\begin{column}{0.5\textwidth}
\underline{Soon in \textbf{heiCO}}:
\begin{itemize}
\item Commit (and withdraw commitment) for exams
\item See grades
\end{itemize}
\underline{Already in \textbf{LSF}}:
\begin{itemize}
\item Registration for some lectures (language courses)
\end{itemize}
\end{column}
\end{columns}
\end{frame}
\subsection{What are commitments?}
\begin{frame}{Difference between course participation and exam participation}
\begin{itemize}
\item The CL course registration is non-binding
\begin{itemize}
\item You're not committing yourself to anything there, especially not taking the exam.
\end{itemize}
\item At the end of the semester ahead of the exams, you decide whether you want to commit yourself
\item By commiting, you confirm: ``Yes, I want to participate in the exam and the received grade will be counted"
\item If you don't commit for an exam, it can't be evaluated and you will not receive ECTS
\end{itemize}
\end{frame}
\begin{frame}{Commitment required}
\begin{itemize}
\item Obligatory courses
\item Courses, that should be counted as an elective module (Wahlpflichtmodul laut Prüfungsordnung)
\item Courses of the secondary subject computer science (bachelor) or application/research module (master)
\item Basically all courses you want to receive ECTS points for
\end{itemize}
\end{frame}
\begin{frame}{Exceptions: No commitment required}
\begin{itemize}
\item Courses counted as ``Übergreifende Kompetenzen"
\item Courses from the examination module: B.A. and M.A. thesis, oral examination (Warning: Finalists' Colloquium has to be committed)
\end{itemize}
\end{frame}
\subsection{Commitment Procedure}
\begin{frame}{Commitment Procedure and Deadlines}
\begin{enumerate}
\item \textbf{Semester start}: Tentative course selection
\item \textit{During the semester}: Attend the courses
\item \textbf{Pre-Commitment Phase}:
\begin{itemize}
\item Within the last third of the term, you will be prompted to communicate non-CL courses that you might want to commit
\item e.g. courses from computer science and other courses that should be recognized as ``Zusatzleistung''
\end{itemize}
\item \textbf{Commitment Phase}:
\begin{itemize}
\item About two weeks later, the commitment phase begins, during which the binding commitments are made.
\end{itemize}
\item \textit{End of the semester}: Write exams
\end{enumerate}
\end{frame}
\begin{frame}{Notes on exam registration for non-CL courses}
\begin{itemize}
\item For example, a separate exam registration in MÜSLI may be necessary for courses in computer science. The CL commitment remains unaffected by this and is mandatory in order to receive credit for the course!
\end{itemize}
\end{frame}
\begin{frame}{Deadlines}
\begin{itemize}
\item Apart from few exceptions, the commitment deadline for all courses is equal
\item Until that day, commitments can be performed and undone any number of times
\item Important: \textbf{The commitment deadline is a hard deadline.}
\end{itemize}
\end{frame}
\subsection{How do commitments work in heiCO?}
\begin{frame}{Yeah, that would be nice.}
We have no idea.
\end{frame}
\subsection{Problems}
\begin{frame}{Troubleshooting}
\begin{itemize}
\item If a course should not be counted regularly (i.e. a seminar as ``Zusatzleistung"), you should inform the secretariat as soon as possible
\item If a course you want to commit can't be found in the system, inform the secretariat as soon as possible
\item After expiration of the deadline, there is no time for troubleshooting!
\item More information: \url{https://www.cl.uni-heidelberg.de/studies/faq/}
\end{itemize}
\end{frame}
\subsection{Failing}
\begin{frame}{Second and third attempts}
\begin{itemize}
\item You have a second attempt for all exams
\item If you fail a second attempt, you can request a third attempt at the common examination office (``Gemeinsames Prüfungsamt") up to two times
\item You can't request a third attempt for the exams part of the proof of orientation (``Orientierungsnachweis")
\end{itemize}
\end{frame}
\metroset{background=dark}
\begin{frame}{Takeaways}
\begin{itemize}
\item Commitments for exams will soon be done via heiCO.
\item You have to commit in time (reminders will be sent via CL mail)
\item You always have a second attempt, sometimes a third attempt is possible
\item Contact the secretariat timely when encountering problems
\end{itemize}
